THE INSTAFAMOUS BUBBLE MASK

So I tried the new bubble mask that been all over instagram recently. I bought it from a company called Give Me Cosmetics.

I was a little apprehensive about buying something from a random Instagram page, haven’t you heard the horror stories?

I decided to test the waters anyway because I’m a curious person.

I paid £10.00 for a 100g pot which, after opening, is plenty.

The packaging states that its “made using natural mud that contributes to pore and oil control”. With active ingredients including; Aqua, Kaolin, Charcoal Powder, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hamamelis Virginiana Extract and Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice.

Aqua

Not many people realise that water is an active ingredient. Active ingredients are ingredients within products that have an active role in the purpose and benefit of the product. Water helps to soften the skin and deliver other active ingredients to the skin.

Kaolin

A form of clay that is naturally dervied from rocks in China. Its great at absorbing oil.

Charcoal Powder

A finely ground form of carbon, it’s great at trapping toxins, oil, dirt.

Sodium Hyaluronate

A stabalised, lab made form of Hyaluronic Acid which naturally occurs in our skin and hair. Hyaluronic Acid can hold up to 100 times its weight in water so its perfect for hydrating the skin and drawing moisture into the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate is used in place of Hyaluronic Acid where a more stable solution is needed that is less likely to be oxidised. The molecules are also smaller and easier to penetrate the skin.

Hamamelis Virginiana Extract

Witch Hazel extract is a perfect atringent and is used in skin care products to shrink down pores.

Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice

Aloe Vera Leaf Juice is very hydrating and good for moisturising the skin and helping with flaky and itchy skin. It’s also good for treating acne.

The jelly-like mask reminds me of the popular arab dessert mohallabia, if you know what that is. It starts to foam pretty much on contact so you have to work quickly. Using a mask brush is best.

The instructions explain to apply the mask and wait for it to foam. After its fully foamed, massage the bubbles into your skin for around 1 minute to help break down the dead skin and dirt. After leave the mask for a further 10 minutes and rinse.

Top Tips: This mask expands A LOT. So be very mindful of that as it ended up covering my whole nose and starting to take over my eyes too!

The picture above shows the mask foaming just after applying.
